I adopted (bought) an American Bulldog when she was 4 months. BEST dog EVER. I also adopted (bought) a Great Dane as a puppy. He was hyper and kinda hard to housebroke. Well, both of my dogs ran off last week and I found them 4 hours later.....dead. They had been hit by a car.
I called the Dane breeder we purchased from before. They were wanting to sell their 9 month old. [that was an older brother to our dane puppy]. We bought him and he is awesome so far! So, just wanting to get opinions. My experiences have lead me to prefer older puppies. 4 months and up. That way I can still "mold" them to our life style. Thank you all for your answers!

I prefer a puppy, because there is less "baggage" that comes with the dog. If you rescue an older dog, they may be house trained, but they may also have been beaten, or have a fear of ceiling fans. You just never know. Getting a puppy gives you the chance to mold a little mind into a great dog.
