Default Which would you rather adopt, puppy or adult dog?

Hey there everyone.

In the near future, I plan to adopt a dog. The thing is, I know that there a lot of both puppies and adults out there that need homes.

Have you had experience with having to make this choice? If so, why did you make the choice that you did.

At the moment, I prefer a puppy because I want one to raise and care for. I do not have children or any other pets, just a hubby. I live in a house out in the country, and would like a puppy that's going to be medium-sized to large.

Main reason I don't want an adult dog is because I honestly just want to raise my own dog. I'm also scared that an adult dog I would adopt would have bad temperment or something.
Thanks very much for all of your comments. And, I agree! How can someone get a thumbs down for an opinion?! Oh well! Sorry, guys.

I am definatley going to adopt from a shelter, no question about that.

I wish I could take them all home with me, but I know I cannot.

The biggest debate I'm having with myself is, "Oh, well...this dog will never get a home, so I should take him." I'll figure out which I want to do, before I go to adopt though.

Again, thanks a lot for the responses. I appreciate hearing your insights!
Just putting another thank-you out there to you guys.

Nice to hear your words of advice, it's made me think about the whole thing quite a bit.
While I have only gotten one negative response (honestly, you usually get more if you try to get help from the internet) I don't need your negativity here, dear.

A lot of people consider animals family members. If you don't like my questions, then please leave.

I feel exactly like you do. While there are many many dogs out there that have been abandoned or don't have homes, a new dog owner should have the experience of raising and training a new dog. We've always gotten dogs as puppys and it's worked out well.

Pup or young adult. I like to train my dogs myself. I dont like to inherit others problems or mistakes. Not to say I haven't had some really nice "rescues" but, as a preference I like a pup.

How can anyone get a thumbs down for their opinion. I mean wasnt this a WHAT WOULD YOU RATHER question?
