If he's intact and has all the right papers, the best way to start is usually to:
1. Join classes. The classes will teach you about what to expect, how to move around the ring etc. They will also address any problem behaviour - showing a dog is not all about looks, a rude/out-of-control/aggressive etc. dog has no chance of winning. Be aware that you dog must stand still and let the judges handle him, check his teeth, his testicles, run their hands over him etc.
and
2. Ask an experienced Alaskan Malamute show person to help you out. He/she will have more breed-specific advice for you, how to groom the dog, how to get just the right speed for the running around the ring, so that your dog displays the right running gait and movement. If you got the dog from a reputable breeder, they should help you with this.
