Default Should a dogs tail be docked for show?

I rescued a beautiful unwanted boxer dog, 1 and a half years old and he is now well cared for and spoilt by my parents. Whenever my dad takes him for a walk, some people comment on how amazing he would look if his tail was docked (cut off). To me, cutting off a dogs tail for show is cruelty and I can't understand why people would want to do that, neither do my folks.
Agree or disagree?
