Default My Dog Gets Car Sick How Do I Help Him Stop?

I just got a 6 month old lab and he gets sick and throws up all over the car everytime I take him out. I have 2 other dogs that never get sick and never have. Does anyone know of anything that will calm his stomach? thanks

I've done this with people's dogs. You have to put the dog in a crate before you put the dog in your car. Well, first you have to have the crate in a position in the vehicle where if you left the door open, the dog can SEE the ground moving when you drive (without getting car exhaust inhalation). I do it in my van for people because the seat is removed and I have the side door. You have to PLAN the driving trip because you cannot do stop & go driving and you can't go fast (the dog has to SEE the ground moving). First trip I take around the block (right turns only so I don't have to stop). At the end of that first short trip lots of play (which relieves stress). Then I build up time & distance. Remember - NO stop & go driving. It takes a week, one drive a day.

Sometimes puppies will grow out of it. Are you crating him in the vehicle? You could position the crate so he can see out the front of the car. Also, try not feeding him close to car rides.

And, be patient. Car sickness isn't fun, but many dogs will learn how to deal with it.

some dogs can suffer badly from car sickness.
i suggest not feeding your dog before a car trip,
when i worked at a boarding kennels the dogs due out would not get fed the day of leaving (unless leaving really late).

also if you have a boot put him in there instead on on the back seat, i remember watching a vet program years ago and they said this really helps with travel sick pets.

Our 2 y.o. GSD would get car sick. We would not feed him before he had to travel, but that never helped. I think the problem was his former owners never took him anywhere in the car. He is used to it now with us and no longer gets sick. As others said, a vet can prescribe something if he continues.

Your vet can prescibe a medication to calm your dog's stomach while in the car. Until them, try not to overfeed him before going on a car ride.

There are some products you can get for your dog to calm his tummy. Check your pet store.
Try to take him on short drives to get him used to the car.
Do not feed your dog just prior to going in the car.
Some dogs do not do well in the car and you may have to accept this.

1. You're vet should prescribe a tablet that you put in your dog's food.
2.Or you can buy a car carry case to put it in.
3. Try not to feed him much before a journey. Or you can give it dry food ( But again, not to much.)
