Default Dog grooming trauma!?

Hi, advice please. I have a 10 month old Bihon who I take to a Dog groomer every 6 weeks to keep his coat in order, I do brush him myself but it's difficult because he bites the brush. And I know I should be firm before you point that out! anyhow, this time he had got very knotted up, he jumped into my mom's garden pond when we visited at Christmas, and the wet weather here means he's been wet everyday. The groomer said there was no choice but to go short, and when I went to collect him he was virtually shaved all over, I mean you can see skin in places, and there were a couple of small nicks on his belly. He looks freaky. Since then, he's been moping in his basket, doesn't want to walk, drink or eat or play. Seems like he is depressed. Is that ridiculous? any ideas? and how long before it grows back. Thanks, I know this is a long question, I love him so much!
Thanks this is all super helpful. I use a comb and a paddle brush to groom him and some spray. I just think the groomer could have persevered a lttle. Also he was there all day, they had so many dogs booked in.

find a new groomer, some sedate difficult dogs, that would explain your dog being off color, sounds like hes had a few bad experiences at the groomer to be honest, find a good one and theirs no reason why your dog shouldn't start tolerating being brushed.
he needs a kind understanding person to gain his confidence again.
at his age theirs no reason for him to be scared of being brushed, hes learned it somewhere, you can turn this around, hes still learning

if he was there all day its quite likely he was sedated as they keep them as long as poss for the sedative to wear off.

p.s not all groomers sedate,

I didn't see your dog but often this is the best thing done. You really don't realize how kntted to the skin it really is and it can and often causes serious skin problems.
I am a groomer and I try to leave some hair but form what you are descibing I think it may have been the best.
Some dogs just don't like haircuts. i had a cockapoo many years ago and everytime she was shaved she would mope for about a week. the nicks should have been shown and you should have been told about it. teh hair often mats worse underneith and depends on how bad might not have been hard as the skin is loose and hard sometimes to shave.
As far as the how long the hair will tqke depends on the dog, i groom 2 poodle they are sisters one grows extremely fast and needs to be shaved about every 5 weeks the other realy doesn't need to be done until 3 1/2 - 4 months.
If the moping etc. last more than 3 days I would segest having the dog checked by a vet for safety.
As far as brushing you should use a comb and a slicker brush I'm not sure what you mean by a paddle brush. they should be brushed in layers.
Hope this has helped.
You can have the dog done every 4 weeks so if htis should happen again just bring him in earlier. If you brush him and bath him yourself you can use downy fabric softner as a conditioner. You put about an inch of Downy in a gallon of water ( I use a cleaned empty milk bottle) this will help with the mats, keep the dog extremely soft and you can pick your sent ( this I was tought in dog grooming school)

I Have A Bichon As Well And He Was The Same Way He Hated To Be Brush And Would Bite The Brush As Well. I Think Your Bichon Got Traum Atized And Depend How Short He Is It Will Be At Lease Three To Four Months Till It Grows Out . I Keep My Bichon Clip Short All Year Long Because He Hates Being Brush Andi Don't Want To Stress Him Our Or My Self.
