Default How common is " Black Skin Disease" in pomeranians???

I have a pom, I was doing research on the breed and it was mentioned that Black Skin Disease is one of diseases that plagues poms.. My pup`s relatives have alopecia, this sounds similiar to what they had.... Is my pup going to have it??? My vet said it`s unlikely, anyone out there have more info?
His grandfather had it....and one male cousin.
I figured it was the same....it`s the only condition I came up with during my research that resembled alopecia in poms. It`s more common in males, it`s X linked... I`m just hoping it passes my pom. I`m not breeding mine, I just want to have a healthy pom. The breeder said they are still doing research and she`s starting a new bloodline.

Alopecia and Black Skin Disease are the same disease.

I'm not sure how common it is, and whether your pup will have it depends on a genetic roll of the dice.

It's a hereditary condition. Noone is quite certain of the mode of genetic inheritance as yet, but it runs in certain bloodlines.

Assuming it is a recessive and then breeding a dog that is not afflicted but is a recessive carrier of the condition means that some of the pups will also be carriers of the condition (but not afflicted) as breedings continue, this increases the number of carriers.. and thus increases the incidence of afflicted dogs as unknown carriers are bred to one another.

The fastest and easiest way to eliminate a disease is to remove both afflicted and possible carrier dogs from breeding as well as HONESTY amongst breeders regarding the possibility that a dog may be a carrier. These general principles apply to ANY disease that seems to be genetic in origin... including but not limited to: PRA, cataracts, HD, vWD etc...

Such issues are one of the reasons responsible breeders do so much research into the pedigrees of their dogs as well as so many health tests. The goal is always to decrease the incidence of disease.

Post Stop Smoking Now!

Stop Smoking - Start Living
Stopping smoking is not easy. Below are some tips which may help you to stop smoking.

1. Tell everyone that you are giving up smoking. Friends and family often give support and may help you. Smoking by others in the household makes giving up harder. If appropriate, try to get other household members who smoke, or friends who smoke, to stop smoking at the same time. A 'team' effort may be easier than going it alone.

2. Anticipate a cough. It is normal for a 'smokers cough' to get worse when you stop smoking (as the airways 'come back to life'). Many people say that this makes them feel worse for a while after stopping smoking and makes them tempted to restart smoking. Resist this temptation! The cough usually gradually eases.

3. Take one day at a time. Mark off each successful day on a calendar. Look at it when you feel tempted to smoke, and tell yourself that you don't want to start all over again.

4. Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) can help if withdrawal symptoms are troublesome. Nicotine gum, sprays, patches, tablets, lozenges, and inhalers are available. Using one of these roughly doubles your chance of stopping smoking if you really want to stop. A pharmacist, GP, practice nurse or Stop Smoking Clinic can advise about NRT. There is also a separate leaflet called 'Nicotine Replacement Therapy' which gives more details.

Also You can find in Google (Yahoo, MSN etc) some of this queries:
