Dog hides food & treats. What's up with that?

My dog takes treats from me but she'll frantically look for somewhere to hide it. She will whine and whimper if I block her from hiding it or if I follow her. I've found her stash in the corner. I feed her well. Why does she feel the need to hide food? I don't want to end up getting pests because I am unable to find the food she hids. How can I stop it?
