We just recently got a new dog, six year old scottie. She is great with humans. She shows no aggession to any human whatsoever. But when my other dog, a 1 year old westie, went towards her while she was eating, she turned growled and almost bit him! Is there anything I can do to break this old pup from her nasty habit?

Really the best thing to do in that situation is to separate them while they eat. It isn't an abnormal behavior for a terrier. At my house, our terrier eats her food in her crate. She knows the rules and runs right into her crate when it is time for breakfast or dinner.

When the other dog is in a different room, take the aggresive dog's food bowl while she is eating. Put a yummy treat in it and then immeadiatly give it back. She will learn that when you take the food bowl away, something good will happen.

Maybe this will help when the other dog comes over, not sure. But, I think it is worth a try.
Oh... and is the dog who comes to inspect the food bowl just hungry? Has he eaten yet?

It also could be that the dog that inspects the food, is the alpha dog, Make sure the alpha eats first!!! Of course you should eat first because you are the 'alpha' in the pack.
