Default Good food for my dog?

I recently found out that my 2 year old Airedale is allergic to a Chicken and Rice blend. She's been on this type since she was a baby and has been fine up until about 3 months ago. When she eats that food, she has chronic diarrhea. It also didn't help that that particular food was on the recall list. After a blood test and fecal sample tests, everything is good, Thank God!!

My vet recommended that I put her on Eukanuba Fish & Potato dog food. It's super expensive though-- $18 for a 6lb bag.

Does anyone know of different blends of food OTHER THAN Chicken & Rice and/or Beef & Rice? The F/P really seems to be helping, and as skeptical as I was about the food allergy, I really do believe that the food was the problem.

Thanks in advance!! =)

If you think $18 for a 6lb bag is expensive .. try $50 for a 40lb bag (yeah thats what I pay). But I know my dogs are getting the BEST available food out there.

Try California Natural:
http://naturapet.com/brands/california-natural.asp
They have a Salmon & Herring Dry food and Salmon and Sweet Potatoe Wet .. so they have things other than Chicken and Rice.

"California Natural Pet Food

Cheap pet food ingredients, such as protein fillers, or even premium ingredients can be highly allergic to pets with sensitive systems. That's why California Natural dog and cat food refuses to use them in our production. In fact, we have the shortest ingredient list of any dry pet food and combine just one protein, one fat and one carbohydrate source to create a hypoallergenic pet food."

Yes, a GOOD food will cost you a bit more .. but you will have less vet bills, less poo and they eat less when on a GOOD food. When I had my dog on Kibbles and Bits and Mighty dog he ate 1 cup a day .. now that hes on Innova .. he only eats 1/2 cup of dog food. So my food lasts me ALOT longer.

Stay away from Purina, Eukanuba, Kibbles and Bits and all that petsmart/walmart brands. They are FULL of fillers, corn, wheat, soy and by products. Its like feeding your dog mcdonalds everyday.

Spend a little extra cash and your dog will thank you for it :]

I think you should try Natural Balance, either the Fish and Potato or Duck and Sweet Potato variety. Yes, it is expensive, but it is well worth it. You can actually feed less of this kibble because the ingredients are whole and filling. All of Euk's products use far too many additives and fillers, no matter what the bag says on the front!!
Actually, I highly doubt Euk even makes a Fish and Potato line, unless it is a presciption diet.

Good for you for looking out for the very best for your pup!!

The fish and potatoe is the way to go, yes it is expensive, we buy a 30lb bag for 56.00 a month, but it is well worth it for your dog's health. It's only available through a vet's office where we live. You will see a great improvement in your dog's coat, skin issues, and it will stop the constant licking and chewing on themselves. Just in stopping hot spots alone, made it worthwhile for our St.Bernard. Also, you can buy dog bisquit/cookies that are wheat/rice/chicken free. Buy either Innova or California Blend, both fun about 10.00 for a decent size bag of treats. Our dog simply loves these! I hope you will keep her on the F/P, your dog will love you for it, and her overall health will improve.
