Default My cat is sneezing and eating my dog's food!?

My cat has been sneezing for 6 days now. I'm really worried. I just took him to the vet the other week and I'm still paying off a debt to the vet from my other cat that recently passed. Add in the fact that I am moving, I really don't have any extra money whatsoever. Otherwise I would take him to the vet right away. He's 11 years old and he's an indoor cat and he's acting normal aside from the sneezing. He's only been in contact with my other cat who is also an indoor cat. I'm worried that he might have a URI. The only other thing I can think of is 9 days ago I switched my cat's food to Felidae. I used to feed him "grocery store brands" and he's never had problems switching between foods before. I even mixed his old food with the new food as many people suggest. Today, though, I caught him eating my dog's food and he's never done that before. So I am wondering if it's possible that there is a connection here? Could it be the food that is making him sneeze?

He might just have allergies. Just like humans cats can sneeze from dust or whatever. And as for the dog food, maybe he just don't like the new food. Switch back to something you know he likes.

It sounds like your cat has a cold. It is spread only from cat to cat so you won't be able to catch it. At the pound they seperate the cats with colds and have medication which they give them. You could call the vet and ask someone there. explain the situation like you have told us and see what they say. A couple of times when i called the vet the nurse there gave me great advise on what i could do at home. Give that a try. I don't think the sneezing has anything to do with the food because usually with food the cat would get an upset tummy. Dog food is not good for cats over time but I don't think the once will cause any damage to your cat.

Your kitty could have an upper respiratory infection if he also has watery eyes (and sometimes nose.) But usually, a cat with a URI loses its appetite as well, so I'm going to suggest that you cat has allergy issues, probably with something that is pollenating right now. If your kitty's not too miserable, the allergies will probably disappear in a few weeks and medical intervention won't be necessary; however, vets CAN give a long-lasting allergy shot that will usually see them through their allergy season.
I suspect that your kitty is eating your dog's food because he doesn't like his new cat food. Please don't allow this indefinitely, Hon; dog food does NOT have enough protein in it to keep a cat healthy.
Why not go back to his old brand of cat food? My vet says that Purina/Friskies cat foods provide an excellent and healthy diet for cats.
