My puppy won't eat dog food!?
We just recently brought our puppy home from the pound. Her name is Pepper. She is the sweetest dog in the world. Except for the jumping part but we're working on that. But my question is, how can I get her to eat her dog food. She'll take little nibblets like once a day and thats it. I dont want her to starve to death and die. We are feeding her Alpo. Every once in awhile my son will "drop" his food onto the floor and shes right there to get it. But she wont eat her dog food! Someone help me!
Im not willing giving her people food. Im not stupid and I know its bad. But with a 2 year old, I cant help it if he drops something. 2nd, she is a little dog. She is a beagle/bluetick mix.

STOP giving her people food! she will eat when she gets hungry. when you guys eat, make her go to a different room or put her outside. they have to learn to eat their own food.

She may not like it. Try a different food, like Purina One, or Beneful. My dog wouldn't eat Iams dog food, but loves everything else.

get small bags of food and experiment.
you may just have a fineky eater. mine lost almost 20 pounds when I tried feeding him dry food per my vets authority for a medical condition.
I had to start mixing it with canned.
if the food is the same for very long he won't eat it but I mix a little table scraps, just enough to smell it and he usually eats then.
you will just have to continue to experiment until you get something she likes.

Alpo? gross. she probably does not like it. try a higher quality dog food like canidae or wellness. my friends mom was feeding her dog canned chicken, real chicken, not dog food because she says that is all he would eat, he won't eat his dog food. i was like no, that is all you're feeding him. he is overweight from the way she feeds him. i took her some of my dogs food, canidae and he gobbled it up. alpo is not a good dog food, too many fillers and grains. if you invest in a better dog food, your dog will be better off. good luck.

buy your dog a different kind of food alpo is horrible for your dog, it makes my dogs poop really really running which is a sign of malnutrietion, but when i feed it bil-jac and purina puppy chow, it's really healthy. i wouldn't suggest feeding your dog bil-jac if it's a small breed dog, but something better and more appyling for it good luck!

sounds like dry dog food. Two things to try -- canned dog food or just wait it out.
If Pepper eats the can, then try to find one of the brands that are supposed to be better nutrition, like Science Diet. The only draw back is that puppies need the hard food for their teeth to grow right, so you will need to work on that.
DO NOT give her human food. It is not good for her and she will grow spoiled the problem will get worse.
Most likely, she will just get hungry enough to eat the dry food. You might "sweeten" it a little by stirring in that doggie "gravey" they sell at pet stores. Not too much, just enough to very lightly coat the food to give it smell and flavor.

How long have you had her? It can take some time for her to get comfortable.
I suggest putting her food down at scheduled times, weight 20 minutes, then pick it up and don't offer her anything until her next meal, if you want her to start eating her food, and going "potty" on a schedule.
However, if she is a young puppy, then you need to leave the food out for her.
Make sure it's a quality food, not the cheap stuff. If it has by products, animal digest, corn, artificial preservatives, dyes, and sweeteners, then look for something else.
